As promised, in this post we are going to reveal some of the Ruval Quest’s GDD secrets.

This is the first of that will be a long series of posts about Ruval Quest – so, if you are interested and you want to keep yourself up to date, subscribe our RSS feed, become a Fan of our Facebook Page, or become a Follower of our Twitter channel.

So, what is Ruval Quest?

As we have written, Ruval Quest is an innovative Platform Game that mixes typical features of Action Platform games with attributes that belong to RPG, Social and Adventure Games. So, we can define Ruval Quest a Social Action Platform RPG.

We have also written that the entire Ruval Quest’s story is set on the surface of an enormous machinery. But, who is Ruval? What is this enormous machinery? What will be the aim of player?

Well, Ruval is a biomechanical character that lives in a mechanical world called Impervium.
Impervium is a gigantic cube in continuous movement (it’s a machinery :) ), formed by 6 surfaces. Each surface is characterized by a different natural element that gives the main background to the levels that belong to that surface . The elements are: Earth, Water, Fire, Metal, Wood, Air – and there will be a Ruval Quest’s episode per each surface.
In the center of each surface there is a big tower that represents the element of that surface.

Anyway, what will be the aim of player?

Impervium is breaking down and the Ruval’s mission (so, player’s mission) is to repair the world.

Why the cube is moving? How that feature will affect the gameplay? These questions and many others will find answers in next posts! KEEP IN TOUCH!

We have posted on our Youtube channel (www.youtube.com/ darkwavegames) a new Master of Alchemy’s video.

It’s a full solution of a demo level (so, you can see all the video: it is a level that you won’t find when you’ll play to MoA :) ).

We have uploaded this video, so you will able to evaluate the big quality of Master of Alchemy. Consider that it is a level with only one target, without physics obstacles, disappearing walls, buttons, etc. – Anyway, you’ll be able to appreciate the different behaviors of the diverse material states (because of the physics engine) , the use of transformation tools in order to reach the required target, the management of colors.

Hi, my name is Francesco Dossena and I’m the Master of Alchemy’s concept artist and illustrator.
I’ve been working at DarkWave Games for almost 1 year (since its creation). It has been a completely new experience for me: I’m mainly a comics artist…but at DarkWave Games people want to create artistic videogames, so they hired me – Lucky them :) !

Speaking about Master of Alchemy (MoA), my graphic approach to it was very impulsive: it was a period in which I was already working with that kind of shapes and settings; moreover, the possibility to trasform a chimical/alchemic laboratory into a steampunk lab was really exciting.

To design alembics’ (/stills) shapes, I always started from real objects with a similar function (i.e. the blower is an hairdryer); graphically, to give them a steampunk look, I have replaced glass and plastic with steel and bronze (and I have added a lot of rust :) ).
The really difficult thing was that we had to use modular shapes: repeating these shapes in more alembics, we succeeded in saving a lot of the iPad/iPhone memory.

I used a similar approach also for characters…I started from traditional looks, to finish to more metropolitan evolutions (fortunately, in this case I didn’t have to use modular shapes).

By the way, I’m really proud of the Nova Persona character (an Alchemist Robot) – he was so liked that we created a comics about his born/creation and we will use it to introduce the reader to the Master of Alchemy’s background.
